The name is believed to be a reference to “Thank God It’s Friday” however, as of 2010, certain television advertisements for the company have used the alternative title, Thank Goodness It’s Friday.

History
The company was private again in 1989. The company’s focus changed from singles to families.
An extension of the brand, which includes TGI Fridays’ TGI Fridays concept, paired with the ambiance of a sports bar known as “Fridays Front Row Sports Grill”
It is located at 2 Major League Baseball stadiums which both overlook the playing field. Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, and Miller Park in Milwaukee.
The chain’s most revenue-producing location is Haymarket Leicester Square which was established on the 22nd of November 1992 in Central London.
It is the Haymarket location is known as being the “most popular” branch as it is also one of the most successful financially.
The month of October 2009 was when Haymarket set the record in the world for the largest profit earned during any week in TGI Friday’s history and has also been the home of several previous winners of the bartenders Olympics which was a competition initiated in the name of Scoggin.
On May 20th, 2014, TGI Fridays were resold to Sentinel Capital Partners and TriArtisan Capital Partners.[18In October 2019, TriArtisan bought out Sentinel’s remaining stake.

Whitbread PLC was one of the largest franchisees in the world. From 2007 to the present, Whitbread had 45 locations in the UK.
On the 17th of January, 2007, Whitbread sold operating rights of all 45 restaurants to T.G.I. Fridays UK Limited (a consortium made up of Carlson Restaurants Worldwide Inc.
along with ABN Amro Capital) thus the end of a partnership established in 1986.[23 TGI Fridays is also used as a restaurant in hotels owned by Country Inns & Suites by the Carlson brand.[citation required.
